A form of on-site surveillance that's used to gather evidence

Activity checks are a form of surveillance that are conducted to investigate whether a claimant’s activities match up to his claim.

This may include stops at a claimant’s location to determine the nature of his or her activities, or to have conversations with people who are familiar with the claimant’s activities. Because activity checks are lower cost than surveillance, they are often used to determine if more in-depth surveillance is needed. An activity check will attempt to answer the following types of questions:

 
  • Is the claimant going to work when he or she should be staying home?
  • Is the claimant engaging in activities that would refute the claim?
  • Is the claimant showing more capabilities than they claimed? For instance, do they show evidence of having an injury that matches up to the injury claimed?
